The UK’s Decision to Leave the EU
On the 23 June 2016, the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union. This decision, which has been shrouded in controversy, has already had a huge impact on the economic climate in the UK, EU and rest of the world.
Before official talks have even been concluded, there is much speculation about the future of the UK and what will happen to personal investments and savings. This Is Money reported that ‘low-interest rates and volatile stock markets are likely to be the order of the day for the foreseeable future’ which in translation means that it is going to be more difficult to build long-term wealth.
However, despite the initial shock of Brexit, here at Signature Living we have defied the odds and in true Signature style, have bucked the trend.
Since the announcement last year, we have seen a steady increase in the interest from overseas property investors wanting to become a part of our journey and who have not been deterred by the prospect of Brexit.

A BBC article by Karishma Vaswani stated, “Research from property investment firm JLL indicates that Asian investors accounted for 28% of the transactions in the UK property market in 2016, up from the 17% the year before.” This is something ourselves have found to be true and the UK offers overseas investors a safe haven where their money can buy them a lot more, especially in the cities Signature Living has developments in.

How Signature Investments Compare
Banks have long held a reputation for offering less-than-attractive interest rates and since the global financial crisis in 2007-8, this has been particularly true.
Current interest rates with banks here in the UK stand between a pitiful 1-2% per annum, with no sign of this rate increasing in the near or far future. This means that if you have money in the bank, then you’re only seeing a small increase on your savings, which have the potential to be earning you much, much more. Factor in the set-up costs and restricted access you get with placing your savings into a bank and you’ve got yourself a pretty poor deal.

Marc recently told CNBC that “investors are on the Titanic” and stocks are about to “endure a gut-wrenching drop that would rival the greatest crashes in stock market history.” A stark warning to those already invested to get out before it’s too late. This warning of an impending stock market crash is echoed by James Dale Davidson, the economist who predicted the collapse of the 1999 and 2007 market, who says; “There are three key economic indicators screaming SELL. They don’t imply that a 50% collapse is looming – it’s already at our doorstep.”
This predicted imminent crash highlights the erratic nature of investing your cash into stock markets and is a stark warning from some of the world’s leading experts.

Signature Living’s Growth
Started in 2008, Signature Living has enjoyed impressive growth and is now established as one of the most successful developers and hotel operators in Liverpool.
We have successfully branched into other UK cities and have expanded our offering to include residential developments, co-working office space and bars & restaurants.
Our growth has been a direct result of our popularity and the niche which was previously undiscovered and un-catered for. Initially, Signature Living focused on group accommodation which proved particularly popular with hen & stag parties, birthday celebrations and families who enjoyed the practicality of all being together in one suite without compromising on luxury, location or facilities.
In 2013, we opened our first heritage hotel, 30 James Street – Home of the Titanic located on Liverpool’s famous Strand. 30 James Street was the former headquarters of the White Star Line shipping company and an iconic landmark in the city. Having been left to decay over a number of years, we purchased the building and transformed it from an empty shell into a luxury hotel, wedding venue and spa which celebrates its unique maritime history.
We have become specialists in transforming and preserving iconic listed buildings, bringing them back from dereliction and giving them a new lease of life, albeit for a different use. Phase one of the development was completed in just three months with the rest of the hotel and its facilities including a rooftop restaurant and luxury spa complete in seven months.
Another reason why we’re different from other developers is that we can guarantee quick development times which in turn means that investors can see a quicker return on their investment. This is due to the fact that all assets are in-house; from architects to quantity surveyors, joiners to project managers we work together as a united team, pulling in a project in an impressive timeframe.
Our second heritage development was that of the former Coal Exchange building in Cardiff, a Grade II* site which again was left in a severe state of disrepair for a number of years.
We opened phase one of The Exchange Hotel development within 2 months of planning permission being granted where 30 rooms and the magnificent original grand hall were open to the public. We have continued to work through the rest of the dereliction, opening the hotel in phases so it can continue to operate as a functioning hotel.
We’re furthermore in the process of developing other heritage sites across the UK including the Grade B+ Crumlin Road Courthouse in Belfast, the Grade II listed Old Post Office in Preston and the B1 listed Scottish Mutual Building, again in Belfast. We pride ourselves on our unique skillset which allows us to transform such iconic and tremendous buildings in a way which other developers couldn’t even attempt.
Earlier this year we announced our pre-tax profits of £5.8m in the year to 1 April 2016, highlighting an increase of 262% in one year.
We have high expectations for the future and for the financial year of 2016/17 we expect to again surpass our projected expectations which for this period lie at £20 million.
